Dyes looks at Leipzig's Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT, Wave-Gothic Festival)—one of the biggest "dark" culture events in the world—through the related image and writing content that gets posted online, and how this aesthetic world intersects questions of self-optimization and vulnerability in late capitalism. In the book, image analysis, location description, interview transcripts, and contemporary cultural theory form a fragmentary account of "unconventional" style en masse within the context of a former East German city actively repositioning itself as post-reunification business destination.

Dyes betrachtet das Leipziger Wave-Gotik-Treffen (WGT, Wave-Gothic Festival) - eines der größten Treffen seiner Art der Welt - ausgehend von gefundenen Fotografien in sozialen Netzwerken und bringt diese mit Fragen von Selbstoptimierung und Verwundbarkeit im Spätkapitalismus in Zusammenhang.
Bildanalyse, Standortbeschreibung, Interviewtranskripte und zeitgenössische Kulturtheorie bilden im Buch eine fragmentarische Darstellung massenhaft unkonventioneller Styles die in Leipzig, dem Austragungsort des Festivals in seiner neoliberalen Neuausrichtung als Nachwende-Wirtschaftsstandort, zusammenkommen.
